‘Buy-A-Body’: Deconstructing the Female Body
‘Buy-A-Body’: Deconstructing the Female Body is a series of three-dimensional paintings that portray toxic images of how the female body is inherently oversexualized, then marketed and sold to men through the guise of doll packaging, originally intended for younger girls. The purpose of this series is to enlighten the viewer on how overly sexualized women are in current day consumerism and social media, as the paintings are reminiscent of major brands. By utilizing traditionally feminine aesthetics and colour schemes to draw the viewer in, the concept of ‘Buy-A-Body’ highlights the loss of identity women face when they are viewed as simply bodies to be bought and sold by men, criticizing the oversexualization that so many of us have faced growing up.
